Dear NLU Community,

National Louis is gearing up for our April Sexual Assault Awareness campaign. Our Red Flag Campaign addresses dating violence and sexual assault prevention. Designed with a "bystander intervention" strategy, the campaign encourages friends and other campus community members to "say something" when they see warning signs ("red flags") for dating violence in a friend's relationship.

The Red Flag Campaign features a series of posters that illustrate "red flags" that might be present in a relationship. Each poster reflects one of the following themes: coercion, emotional abuse, sexual assault, victim-blaming, excessive jealousy, isolation, and stalking. An example of a helpful peer response is also provided on each poster.

A distinct component of our April efforts includes programming, including lunch and learns and an expert panel discussion. Save the date for the following opportunities for faculty and staff involvement:

  * Domestic Violence Awareness Lunch and Learn - Pizza will be provided, RSVP<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/73F7RHN>!
     *   Lisle: April 5, Noon
     *   Chicago: April 10, Noon
     *   Wheeling: April 12, Noon

  * Sexual Assault Prevention Panel Discussion
     *    Chicago: April 19, Noon & 4pm

It is our hope that you will join us and members of the campus community in using this as an opportunity to engage our community in dialogue and learning about relationship violence. It takes a village to create a safe community, join us and do your part. If you are a Faculty member, you have a unique opportunity to explore this topic through class discussions, projects, and/or student assignments. If you are interested in talking about ways to use the campaign as a discussion tool in a class, feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Danielle Laban, MA
