RE: Academic Alert: AA#2015-30 Expand the options and application of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) to all degree programs

The following academic alert has been posted. Please read for details.

Academic Alert:

AA#2015-30 Expand the options and application of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) to all degree programs

DECISION:
Expand the options and application of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) to all degree programs (including majors, minors, and concentrations) in both graduate and undergraduate programs within the College of Professional Studies and Advancement AND the National College of Education. Programs seeking to include credit for prior learning, as an option in their programs, must contact the Provost Office.

RATIONALE:
As the institution and its programs evolve, and as educational practices and approaches change, decisions concerning the award of credit for prior learning need to be driven by the student's ability to demonstrate proficiency or mastery of course and program outcomes. The current practice of limiting credit for prior learning to undergraduate courses and programs in CPSA only limits the application of credit for prior learning for potential students, including students with military experience and other types of professional training. Institutional awareness and improvements of CPL are expected to have a positive impact on persistence and graduation rates as students who receive Credit for Prior Learning are two and a half times more likely to graduate than students without such credit (CAEL, 2010).
