Dear NLU Community,
We are deeply saddened to share news of the passing of Reading and Language faculty member Susan McMahon on Thursday, January 19th.
Sue joined the NLU community in 2002 and was teaching a full course load right up to this past semester. Despite her battle with cancer, she remained an involved and present colleague.
She was a major part of the NCE identity and will be remembered for her deep love of teaching, advocacy for our students and university, with a commitment that is a model for us all. Colleagues, friends, students, and anyone who had the pleasure of working with her all recall her intellect, thoughtfulness, and devotion to reading and literacy. She is a testament to a life well-lived and will be deeply missed.
We at National Louis University are grateful for Sue's contributions in advancing our institution and its students, and the reading program legacy she leaves us.
Her family has announced they will gather in memory of Sue on Saturday, February 4 from 2:00 to 5:00PM at the McMahon home, 2719 Lindgren Trail, Aurora. The service will be held in the tradition of an Irish wake by commemorating Sue's life with drinking, singing, and music. Attendees are encouraged to share thoughts and memories of Susan and join in this lively celebration.
