RE: Academic Alert:AA-2015-33 through AA-2015-35

The following academic alerts have been posted. Please read for details.

Academic Alert:

AA#2015-33 Discontinuation of LAS BA Program and Art Major and Minor
RATIONALE: The Liberal Arts Studies B.A. program has traditionally been served as an entry way for National College of Education's pre-licensure students for their first two years of undergraduate experience; and historically attracted relatively few students interested in completing the entire four-year program. Effective Fall 2015, the pre-licensure students are admitted to either traditional
Social Science B.A. program or through the Harrison Professional Pathways Program (HP3), and thus, the Liberal Arts Studies B.A. program is discontinued. Academic Alert #2015-29 has formally eliminated the use of the undergraduate major and minor in Art in the Elementary Education program, which are not utilized by any other programs; thus, the major and minor in Art are also formally discontinued.

AA#2015-34 Revision M.S. in Counseling for those without a Professional Educator's License
RATIONALE: The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requires that the applicants for the Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement complete, among other requirements, coursework in reading methods. To maintain the eligibility of the graduates of M.S. In Counseling: School Counseling for the Professional Educator License (PEL) with
School Counselor endorsement in the State of Illinois, the existing program is amended to incorporate an additional 0.5-semester credit hour course in reading, RLR585N, Reading Literacy Methods for School Support Personnel.

AA#2015-35 MBA in Nonprofit Management
RATIONALE: In order to improve options available to its existing student populations and to extend the appeal of its Master of Business Administration program to new populations of potential students, National Louis University is introducing the Nonprofit Management concentration in the MBA program.

This concentration allows students to add specialized skills in nonprofit management, program evaluation and analysis, and strategic fundraising to their generalist portfolio of managerial expertise. Students will be able to complete the 39-semester credit hour MBA in Nonprofit Management in the same amount of time as the currently offered generalist MBA program. The concentration courses will be primarily offered online.
